Anybody ever heard of a Camco 572? I just bought one and I don't know jack about Camco - is that an abbreviation for Camillus?

Looks like it will be a cool little knife - specs below:

MADE IN THE USA
Model 572
3-1/8" length closed
5" open
Stainless steel blades
1-5/8" spear blade
1-1/4" pen blade
Handle Material:: White Delrin®
Formed Tip Bolsters

It's Item number: 330077551055 on eBay if you want to see what it looks like.

Yes, according to John Goins, Camillus began stamping some knives CAMCO circa 1948. I believe the eventually quit using the stamp except on a few limited and special editions. If this is incorrect, hopefully Tom WIlliams, "CAMCO" here on BF, will see this post and correct me. Or Knifeaholic, or someone more well versed in this stamp.

As to the pattern, the closest match I have in my sparse catalogs is the #42 Senator Pen knife. It is illustrated with "Sea Pearl" handles.

I still have not found an illustration listing for the "#572" pattern. I do have a 1951 Camillus CAMCO catalog, and it is not listed there. I did see several much more recent knives from Camillus with the CAMCO stamp on eBay.

None of the knives listed in my 1973 catalog are shown with the CAMCO name. Nor in the 1976. The 1996 catalog likewise has no reference to CAMCO. I have 1990 and 1992 coming, so I can't say about them yet. If anyone has scans of catalogs they can share with me, it would be most appreciated. That goes for Camillus and Western.

As far as I can tell at this point, most of the three digit model numbers were earlier than the 1970's. Without a full catalog set, determining the date brackets for your knife is not possible. Perhaps Tom Williams knows. He seems to have the numbers memorized, something he told me a while back was a requirement for his work with Camillus.

No matter what, you got a heckuva deal on that knife...:thumbup: :thumbup:

I have also noticed that in the recent past Camillus has put the CAMCO names on really inexpensive fixed blades and folders that are apparently China imports (I realize your knife is an old USA made collectible - I'm just addressing the use of the name and not your knife).
