i have recently purchased 2 camco electrician knives. does anyone have some of the camco history? i love this knife for everyday use. I am an electrician and the knife gets used every day.

The CAMCO brand was introduced by Camillus Cutlery Co. in 1948. This line of knives was lower priced and included many of the character and advertising knives like the Lone Ranger, Dick Tracy and Davy Crockett.
Many of the CAMCO knives were either hot stamped on the handle or etched on the blade with a customer's name and logo.

The CAMCO electician's knives were the model #229.

The model #229 CAMCO electician's knife was a good one it had carbon steel blades that would really hold a good edge. I have worked on a lot of them. I was a cutler. Keep your blade tangs well oiled the knife should last a long time.

i use a chefs choice diamond sharpener and that camco knife is sharp like a razor. i just picked up an ulster electrician knife with a reddish swirl with black running thru it for $2.50 at a flea market.the blade was worn a bit but sharpened up with a lot of work. (2 minutes). i use a rust remover called rust eater that converts the rust to carbon and a polish called peek.there was some glue or epoxy on the handle but a little gojo hand cleaner and a rag took it off too.my $2.50 knife is now a prize. its amazing what an hours work can accomplish. thanks again for the info.
