Camelbak?

First off, MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope everybody has had a great Christmas day thus far.

I have been looking at getting a day hiking pack and a multi-day pack. From what I have seen around the web it seems that a small to medium size camelbak would be a good choice for a single day hike (specifically the camelbak m.u.l.e.). Any insight?

Incidentally, my parents gave me a mule for Christmas today. Should make for a good day pack. The weight seems to be ideal.

I got a kelty redwing pack and i love it. it is a big day pack or a small weekend pack. its absolutely great!

Also take a look at the Mountainsmith Approach. There are many other options I'd take a look at before Camelback, you're paying for a brand name and a novelty bladder pouch that every other decent daypack has nowadays anyway...

I had never heard of kelty until I started reading the RAT forum. I'm gonna give the mule a try for a little while and go from there. I think it will serve me well as a day pack. Time will tell.

have used the c-bak hawg and trans alp for day paksfor yrs. they work great(the mule is the size in between those two) you shld really get good use outa it. recently picked up the tri-zip for multiple day hikes and really liking it too. gonna give it another workout the next few days. enjoy!

I have a blowfish and a mule. I also have one of their hunting packs. Their bladders are the best on the market. I have had several off brand baldders and they fail much sooner than the camelbak. The mule will be ideal for a day hike. IMO :D

I noticed the tri-zip on camelbaks website the other day. I am not a big fan of the price but that thing looks pretty sweet!

I got a mule last year for Christmas-great day pack-carries essentials and water without a lot of weight. Cabela's had them on sale then for about $25.

Agreed. A simple 2quarter Platypus bladder fitted inside your favourite day pack is going to be way cheaper. And the Platypus lifetime warranty is the same as Camelback's. That said, I have a few Platipus bladders with the bite valves swapped for CamelBack ones (the ones with an elbow and shut off device). They fit great.

+1 for Camelback Mule
I have one for summer/winter hiking and mountain biking.
The bladder keeps water warmer against your back for winter hiking.

I have a CB peak bagger I have had for four years. it doesn't get a hell of a lot of use but it is a fair size.
But at work ( a small camping shop) I have only seen one CB bladder come back for warrenty in almost eight years. They really are good value.
