My camera passed out again (RIP). No more CPR this time. I have to get a new one. Any suggestions for a digital camera that takes decent knife pictures without paying a bunch. I'd like to know some of your guys cameras that take decent pictures for the Forum.

I've got a lot of knives I'd like to share, but I'm forever screwing around with a dead camera.

Thanks for the help.

Thawk,
I just use a flatbed scanner. The resulting images may not be artistic photographs, but they work very well for recordkeeping and forum postings. Zooming in on knife features, like tang stamps, is a piece of cake. And I don't have to worry about depth of field, exposure, or focus.

On the rare occasion that I do use a camera for knives, I'm still using real film, a Minolta X-700 SLR. If I were to upgrade to digital at some point, I'd look at something like a Nikon D80. But with the prices of top-quality film equipment near rock-bottom, I can't justify upgrading at this time.

I have a kodak easyshare C875, it's an excellent camera, tkaes good pics, auto focus, ect. only $200

My wife has a cannon sure shot that I got her for chrismas thats thin and very nice with a rechargable battery, with memory card it was around $225 she loves it. I take all of my pictures with a hand-me-down old digital cannon and I love that. Look in the trading forum here under gadgets and gear lots of stuff for trade walkmans, playstations, gear, tv, camers, if your trying to get a good deal tell what your looking for in a thread and what you have to trade thoes guys trade anything and everything maybe give that a try before you spend a fortune. just a thought.- Joel

Thanks, Caleb, exactly what I wanted to know. Your pictures are every bit the quality I would like to get, and can close in really well. I don't want to buy a steam shovel to dig a decent hole.

thawk,
If you want an excellent,all-around camera;take a look at the Sony DSC-H5
Cybershot.
7.3 megapixels,12X Optical Zoom,image stabilization,etc.,etc.
You can find them for about $310 on the web.
There is an excellent Sony forum here:

You can look at some of the pictures taken with these Sony's.
Sony just released a DSC-H9 that has over 8 megapixels and a 15X optical zoom,so the H-5's should get a little cheaper.

I use a 10 mega pixel Canon A640, I think you can get them $300 to $350 of ebay in the USA. I used to own a Coolpix Nikon 7.1 Mega pixel 5 months ago
I did a lot of comparisons and read alot of reviews before chosing the Canon with visible test shots in reviews. That particular model Nikon was slow to start up and was not good in low light and colors did not seems as bright, the Canon is a pleasure to use after having the Nikon its fast has lots of functions and manual settings (which really work) and from all info I could gather takes the best photos without going to the much bigger more expensive SLRS.
Hope you find the right one for you.
