I was wondering what the differences of both steels were to help me pick out my next knife. Im between the older Camillus Bk-7 or the current Kabar version. Thanks

The alloys are extremely similar. Both are essentially 1095, but with small additions of Chromium, Vanadium and a couple of other elements. The alloys are so similar that any performance difference would be due to heat treat.

It is said that Camillus ran 0170-6C a point or so Rockwell harder than KaBar runs its 1095 Cro Van. That would give the Camillus knives maybe a bit better edge holding and make the KaBars maybe a little tougher.

IIRC, at the time the move to KaBar was announced, Ethan Becker said he thought the KaBar version was a little tougher and did not comment on edge holding.

I remember that too. I figured if Ethan feels that way, that's enough for me.

I'm sure there are folks here who can comment in detail, but with the ready availability of both BK7's - though the Camillus BK7 might be more expensive - why not get both and check it out for yourself? I've been ready to pull the trigger on a Kabar BK7 twice, and each time something comes up. I might ask for a Kabar BK7 for Christmas.
