Camillus 420HC EDC or CRKT Tighe Tac

I have already handled the Tighe Tac and I know that I like the feel of it and the lockup. I also like the way the EDC looks and I think the deciding factor will be the steel. If anyone owns one or both of these knives, how does the 420 on the EDC perform compared to the AUS6.

Don't let the 420 scare you off. I have a CUDA ArcLite made of the stuff and it is good steel for the cash. I have Kershaws in 440A that I don't like as much.

The EDC is an excellent piece. Rides nice, excellent ergonomics, stylish and priced right. Locks up tighter than anything else I have. You can't go wrong with one.

I have a couple of CRKT's in aus6m, and a camillus arclite in 420HC. My Arclite takes a wicked edge, and seems to hold it for a respectable amount of time. Now, I've never compared them formally, but I think Camillus did a great job with this steel. If you like the aus6, I think you'll like camillus 420HC...

I have handled both extensivley and will say that IMO the EDC is a better knife. For a litle more you can get the EDC in 154CM.

I agree with Shootist. For $15 more, you can pick up the EDC in 154CM. Same knife, but with a top knife steel.

The 154CM version was a limited production run, so you'll have to move fast it you decide to go in that direction.

I love CRKTs stuff and I like the looks of the Tighe Tac, but if you can get a EDC in 154CM...DO IT!

A better lock and much better steel.

This may be irrelevant as the dickens, but who knows?

I have the arclite. I've removed it from it's sheath about 5 times. It already has streaks/scratches that won't come out completely w/spit and elbow polish. My AUS6 blades -- those that are satin finished take quite a bit of use, and return to virginal appearance (That is not dirty!)

I have the Tighe Tac. Haven't really used it yet. Of even less help is the fact that my EDC 154-CM won't arrive for a couple or more days.

Okay, so I'm lonely tonite!

Bugs, I think that problem with the arclite is due to the sheath -- the kydex is roughing it up too much.

I have the Tigh-Tac and I love the knife. It is not as beefy as the EDC but it will do the job. They are two different knives but I think that the blade steels are similar in performance.

An added benefit of the 154CM version of the EDC is that it has a stonewash finish. This is my absolute favorite finish on a knife that is to be used. It really hides any scratches very well.

I like the EDC so well that I bought a custom version.

Thanks for the response guys. Just wondering how hard it would be to sharpen the recurve on the EDC with my Sharpmaker?

The Sharpmaker is the best way to sharpen the EDC. Just use the corner of the stones instead of the flats.

If you look in the knowledge base section of the forums there is an article by Joe Talmadge entitled "How to make the Benchmade Axis perform". Same principle for the EDC.
