I walked into Sportsmans Warehouse today ready to purchase a SOG Seal Pup Elite. I walked past a bunch of Camillus knives in the case and stopped to check them out. I didn't realize Camillus was making knives again. I saw this one and it called my name for some reason. Not super expensive, only about $35. But I loved the look of the bamboo scales and gray/back coating. I own a lot of tactical and modern material type knives. I like this because the bamboo give it more of a natural type look, if that makes sense.
The 3.5" blade feels super lightweight. The handle length is adequate. My hands fit fine, but people with slightly larger hands may feel crowded. Its made of hollow ground AUS8 steel and has bamboo scales. Camillus says the "Carbonitride Titanium" coating is as hard or harder then the steel itself. I cut a bunch of cardboard, some fruit, and whittled on a few limbs off my tree. The coating hasn't shown a single scratch yet. It came moderately sharp. I stropped it on my belt sander and got it sharp enough for me.
The sheath pretty much blows. Its a super cheap nylon and doesn't even have a liner for the blade. The tip has caught on the inner nylon during insertion(dirty) a couple of times. I have to really pull the snap tight around the knife to get it to snap properly. The back part of the snap has even scratched and gouged the bamboo where it makes contact with the handle. So I don't even snap it anymore. I thinking about making or having someone make me a leather sheath for the knife.
Bottom line. Its not super expensive, its decent steel, feels good in hand. Shitty shealth, but I love how it looks and enjoying being its owner.
