Camillus Auction April 5, 2008

Nope.... it's for real. I really... really want to attend, but I have a new job at work, and don't have the time to go.

Go to Stampler auctions .com and there you can kinda see the offerings. But I would do some investigating on some of the threads here before I got too excited!!!???

Yes, there will be a knife auction on the fifth! A couple of warnings though!! Be wary of the knife descriptions. They are far from accurate. And rumor has it all of the Cold Steel knives have been pulled from the auction block due to a threat of a lawsuit by Cold Steel. FYI!!!

I thought the place was cleaned out during the liquidation sale last September. Seems odd the 70,000 knives would be left.

Auctions from a business closure are often done in stages. Camillus' is the same as one I experienced in the mfg. industry; we had to go to several auctions for the same business closure just to get the machinery, then the materials, finally the finished & partially finished product.

Watching this happen in stages is like watching a long, slow death.

I just got home from the preview. Lots of old dealer junk mixed in. Bounced around from swap-meet to basement to gun show to garage to final auction. Stuff that has sat in the factory for a long time and is in ??? condition. Beware of rusty thumb prints.

What's a Fisk OVB worth that was in a damp sheath for the last 3 years? OUCH!

I will be at the auction tomorrow. I hope to meet some of the members of BF. Waiting to see what the knives will sell for. Expect a large crowd.

I drove by yesterday , saw lots of cars but couldn't stop in.
How did the auction turn out ?

The Syracuse Post-Standard had an article about it by staff writer Matt Michael on Friday.

http://www.syracuse.com/poststandard/stories/index.ssf?/base/news-13/120729945752650.xml&coll=1

It explains the thinking behind moving the knives to Houston and then shipping them back for the auction. Descriptions of the merchandise sounds like the owner's or auction company's PR release, not what we are hearing from those here in the know. It will be interesting to hear about the outcome.

did anybody else go to the auction and how stupid did you think things went. I was there and could not believe what things where going for. i left half way through and came home and got on bidspotter with a lot less money and did not stand a chance either way i did it. how did anybody else do. Doug

To me this fell under things that make you say WHAT THE *@#

As a 25 year fan and user of Camillus knives, I would also love to hear first hand accounts of the auction. Had to be out of town and without internet yesterday so I could not follow what happened.
