Howdy to all...I have a like new Camillus BK-7 that I got in a trade a few months ago. I am not a collector and I use my knives. For example I have an Effingham Reinhardt Kukri and a Brute that have always been users...My question is, does the unblemished Camillus of any value more than the Kabar version to a collector? The Camillus vs Kabar part is a non-issue for me but why beat up something that may increase in value? So, what're the Beckerheads' opinions? Put it to work or get a Kabar and let the other one stay new? My first impulse is to pack it along on my next canoe trip. Seems to me the value is in the using and since I have no intention of selling it, what difference does it make? Well, maybe I've answered my own question!

I would use it to try it out, nothing heavy. Then I would (this is only what I personally would do) put it away and grab a becker 7. Purely for the fact of availability. I mean if I were to bust it, would I be able to replace it easily? Probably not.

Generally, anything no longer in production and in like-new condition is valued higher by a 'collector' than the in-production version.

To a 'user', whichever is cheaper and not forgetting the warranty.

Use it. That's what they're made for, as you already have decided/discovered. Not really likely to break OR increase in value, IMO, so....you're already using some knives that actually DO fetch some high $$....seems like a non-issue to me. Of course, you can always get a new 7 and dual wield them until you decide you like one or the other better. Or keep both. But I'd say "run what you brung" and enjoy it. In my view no knife is enjoyable sitting untouched in a safe.

well, Beckers are a good value.

if you are like me, it's easy to have a full set of one of each, of non-users, because: hey cool!

it's also just as easy, if you take a shine to a particular model, to have several, some for use, some for later, some for museums :D

keep it, use it, it's good steel.

Thanks for the responses. If I had known the Reinhardt and Brute would be as valuable as they appear to have become, I may have kept them unused. But, what's the fun in that? The warranty issue doesn't worry me. I use and not abuse my tools and Beckers aren't exactly delicate. Plus, they aren't very expensive to replace if one does fail. Unless I wanted to keep it pristine to trade for something I want more, I see no compelling reason not to use it. I have a BK-5 and a composite Necker...So it seems I DO like these knives. In fact, I have a BK-16 and BK-9 on my list for this year...So, I think I will put it to work when the canoeing trip weather is here.
