i have a camillus bk3 i got on trade recently which tickles my inner mall ninja as i bust roots around the yard.

i noticed it says camillus on the blade, which my limited knowledge told me these were made with ka-bar, so i thought it might be an older model

then i see this old sale thread and wonder what the deal is on these older models and why they appear to fetch a premium, at least a few years ago?

cause i would happily take a newer one and cash for a light and mount for my ak.....

You may or may not be able to get more for it then a new BK3 would cost.

The 3 isn't really "collected" with the same frequency like the other BKs although they are rarely seen. Many argue that the kabar laser etched BK3 versions are actually a better and stronger knife (don't get me wrong a cam 3 is a beast) with the improved heat treat and non-stamped blade. I've seen prices for the cam 3s across the board. Whatever you decide enjoy the blade.

i hear ya with the keep it, but i am no real collector.

for now ill keep it though, beastly knife. interesting blade shape

Nice. I still need to get a 3, but it's going to be the KA-BAR one. I stay away from ANYTHING Camillus.

the Ka-Bar ones are comparable or better, as they have a warranty.

the only thing interesting are the OLD OLD OLD ones, made in Cincinnati by the early BK&T. different alloy (4040 iirc), NOT coated, useful serrations. more like dive knives. hence also you'll see: DIV-TUL on some chromed models.
