I was browsing around online today, and I ran across this

http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_store.html?ttl=Camillus Knives&srch=eqCATE CODEdatarq=cm

new knives from Camillus. I know Camillus went out of business a couple of years ago, but it looks like they might be back. Unfortunately all the knives appear to be foreign made.

Does anyone know if it's the old Camillus coming back, a new company that bought the name, or an existing company that bought the rights to the name?

I seem to remember reading that the name was sold.

It will be interesting to see what the quality of their products will be. Camillus was a well respected brand for many years: Acme will have to produce some pretty good cutlery to gain the respect of many on this forum.

Hey, any company that can make all those great products for the Road Runner can surely make some good knives!:D

In seriousness, I'm not holding my breath and I won't be in any rush to buy from just one more Chinese importer. If they actually resumed production in Camillus that would be a different story.

Ya know, I'd almost forgotten that Acme was the primary supplier to the Road Runner. Anything endorsed by the RR and Wily must be okay ;)

I'm with you on not needing anything from another Chinese importer. I've gone this long without a Chinese knife ... I think I can resist now.

The Road Runner never bought a thing from Acme.
Wile E. Coyote did, and they all back-fired on him.
Thus I read somewhere he had a lawsuit against Acme.

Camillus supposedly closed up shop because the employees wanted to unionize. Hence it would make sense that they re-open with knives made overseas. Boss-man is just trying to rub it in their faces. I do not blame him.

I have one Camillus, the Cuda Maxx 5.5 D2. Nice knife, huge, classic bowie shape. I rarely carry it though, people tend to scatter to the four corners when you pull that puppy out of your pocket.:D

The hourly workers at the old Camillus were unionized and had been for decades.

The company assets including the brand, inventory, matrials, and equipment, were sold. The old "boss-man" has nothing to do with the current Camillus brand knives being made in China.

smooth as silk after all these years.

I know, Schrade knives are being made again, I bought one, poor quality compared to the knives of old. If they wanna sell chinese junk, do it on your own brand name and dont ruin famous american brand names selling inferrior knives.

Unfortunately, some of the knives in the first link in SaMX's post look too much like MTechs to me. I wonder if they're made in the same factory? If they are, I just hope they are of decent quality; ie: better than the Taylor Schrades I've seen.

thx - cpr

I'll kinda doubt that there's anything left from Camillus but the name itself when I look at designs like this. Never thought I could buy a Game Warden for that price. Camillus went out of business in 2007 and that's the bottomline. This new stuff isn't Camillus for me anymore and never will be.

Its not a knock off of the Busse Game Warden its a knock off of the Busse Active Duty. I wont be buying anything from them.

REAL Busse AD shown on bottom.

Meh, I've owned a couple of Camillus over the years and liked them, but like some others I have no desire to purchase some chinese import with their name on it. I have to wonder why people like this pay good money for a brand name, and then bring out products under than name that are guaranteed to not appeal to the old customer base? What is the use of brand recognition in that case?

Dead company's brand names are purchased and re-used/abused because this practice is really very successful and profitable.I spent decades in the hi-fi business starting in the 60's - company's like Fisher were bought -sold and sold again -customers continued to buy Fisher branded products for decades after they were no longer anything special - simply because of the power of a respected brand name.A really excellent reputation takes a surprisingly long time to utterly debase.
It does seem to me that any tool based "name" has a shorter life after death utility - simply because tool users bitch and complain to everyone in their profession when they get a tool that doesn't work or hold up under reasonable use.
The first good knife I owned and the first purchased with my own money was a Camillus Boy Scout pattern knife - used these exclusively for a couple of decades. Simply great tools.
Very much doubt that I'll be buying any "new Camillus" products - but they will probably be able to unload tons of inferior knives for some years to come.

Looking at the list posted at The Knife Center website, the George Washington folder might be a U.S. contracted knife. All the rest look Chinese or Taiwanese based on cost, finish, etc......
