I called and was told that this was indeed made in the USA. Does anyone have more info on this Camillus knife?

I copied this from their site-

Some things I’m curious about are-

When were these made

How many were made

How do these compare in quality to the original ones produced and are they made of the same steel

I know that “Acme United” bought the brand name rights and is planning to start a new site-

Thanks for your help!

If this is one of the USMC Raider replicas sold by Smokey Mt. I was told by the ex-CEO of Camillus several years ago that they were made up from a large box of real WW-II USMC Raider knife blades they found in their factory. Doesn't make them any where near as valuable as a real Raider knife, but it does give them an interesting story.

this versions blade could not have been made from older raider stiletto blades. the grind went all the way to the guard on the originals. must be a dif. run. i may buy this knife just to check it out.

Might depend on how close to finished the blade blanks were. All I know is that is what the head of Camillus told me at the time.

that's true. sorry about that. i thought you meant that they found orig. fully ground blades, and cleaned them up(wasn't thinking as usual).

Thanks for the response! That’s a very interesting story about them finding old parts and making up some new knives, maybe these are from that batch. Anyway, it will make a nice addition to my dagger collection :)

These may be a good collectable, but are not of the original blades. In the 1980's, Camillus made a repro using the leftover blades. 2000 were made with a cast pewter handle, blued blade with Camillus markings and USMC scrolled in gold. They came in a wood display with red velvet lining.
The remaining blades were left unblued, and were etched Camillus and sold by the mid 90s.
That being said, I may buy one of these just to have... after all, it was made by Camillus.

The repro USMC Raider Stiletto (#5677 pattern) was made from leftover blades, but not from WWII blanks. I remember seeing a barrell full of the unground blanks when I started working at Camillus in the 1970's. They were from a production run in the 1960's or 1970's for a special customer.
Camillus made a similar knife for CASE with the same story about leftover WWII blades that was sold by Smoky Mountain Knife Works. The SMKW ad for this knife stated that the blades were made during WWII, but never finished. CASE never made a Raider Stiletto, only the V-42 which is a different knife.

Hmmm... I have an HG Long marked "raider" copy in a wood box w/ red velvet. Any relation between the two?

THANKS
