A friend of mine uses a CQB1 for a survival knife and I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on this knife used as a primary survival knife. I have watched him baton through lots of trees as well as general utility work. It seems to be similar to the Al Mar SERE Operator. Just curious about your thoughts on this as I'm not real familiar with the CQB. Thanks, Jim

does anyone have a copy of the tactical knives magazine with the cqb on the cover that I could buy?

Never used or handled one, but it seems like the swedge on the back of the blade would be very hard on a baton. Hollow ground ATS-34 at 60 RC is too thin and brittle for heavy batonning if you asked me. Excellent "fighting" knife though.

I have the CUDA black ops QCB with 0170-6 steel . I think it is a fine knife but it would be better without the swedge. The last time we went camping we for got the can opener and I used this knife to open two cans with only a little damage to the finish.I also used my becker necker with no problem.

For survival purposes and all the chores that can and will come up in a survival situation, I'd suggest a Becker, or better, that are designed to be used as a survival knife and can double back as a defensive blade.

Thanks.... I appreciate the info. The Beckers do look more suited to outdoor work...Jim
