Hello guys,

I have had my dad's first knife for a while, and I have wanted to carry it. It is the Camillus Cub Scout Pocket Knife. It has a blade, awl, and a bottle opener/flathead screwdriver. Everything about the knife is very solid, except the Blade has a lot of side to side play. I was wondering if there was anyway I could fix that, and this seemed to be the place to ask.
Thanks in advance!

Yes you can make it a lot better - but if this is your first time in doing such an exercise - I wouldn't start with such a treasure as your Dads first knife!
You Clamp the Bolster using either very thick leather or wood approx. 10mm thick on top of each of the pins, and GENTLY squeeze the Bolsters-take out after each small step of squeezing to check if the play is getting better - you will have to be careful because if you go too far you will pinch the blades and the walk and talk of the knife will be ruined.

After you are happy with the clamping ( hopefully you haven't created a "tight spot" )you will note the pins will have been exposed - these will need to be peened VERY CAREFULLY -using a proper smaller sized hammer you should strike the pin ( not the bolster ) a few times, but when striking deflecting your strike out from the centre of the pin out wards.... so as you can see its tricky.
After peening both sides, you will need to sand off the slightly exposed peened pins, using wet and dry paper on a ver small hard block ( made from dead flat steel - use the proper grades say from 220 down to 400 then 600.

It may be easier to send to one of our good repair guys here who will get your knife a whole lot better - and if you haven't done this before I highly recommend you do that.
Good luck.

Thanks alot! I at at least know how to do it now. I'll sleep on it, and figure out what I'll do with it.
Thanks again.
