I recently bought this knife:

Since 1876, Camillus Cutlery has been supplying the world with reliable, innovative and quality-made knives that have survived the true test of time. Camillus also makes the highest quality battle knives for the US Military. This Close Quarter Battle (CQB) knife has a fixed blade, Robert Terzuola design and is a discontinued model, so grab it while supplies last, you won't find it anywhere else ever again much less for this phenomenal price! This knife is not a collector's knife as it is discontinued but still a highly desireable knife for service as well as for private collections. If you research the knife you will find that it is valued as a collectible for more than the original price. They are new, in the box with paperwork.

Features:

•5.75" Matte Finished ATS34 Stainless Steel Blade
•Top Swedge
•Notched Thumb Ramp
•Full Tan Construction
•Canvas Micarta Handle Scales and Lanyard Hole
•Multi-Position Kydex Shealth w/ Tek-Lok and IWB (Inside Waist Band) Loop
•Part serrated edge
•10 7/8" overall

....From an online store. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'm kind of concerned that it isn't the real deal. Were there cheap fakes made of these knives? Some I've seen say "Cuda" and some say "Camillus" on the blades, and there are some with black handles and some with tan micarta.

I believe that Camillus originally outsourced these, made from ATS34, then switched to 154cm. They are now made by Meyerco, but cost significantly more.

I guess that what confuses me is that most of the CQB1s I've seen had more of a tan micarta handle, and the one I bought is black. What concerns me is that these have been discontinued for many years, and this place had a half dozen of them a few weeks ago. Any experts out there who can tell, by the picture, if this is likely to be the real deal, as well as anything else about this knife?

Thanks...

I checked out the web site (assuming it's the one whose url begins with the letter "g") by searching for your quote. I never found anything about the site selling any fake stuff...everything seemed positive...although they could use a spell-checker (Kydex Shealth, Full Tan Construction, etc.) I don't think I'd be concerned. And they have a good return policy. Have seen some variation online re handle colour too.

I bought one when Camillus was still in existance .If ound that tapered handle was too short and tapered to fit my hand so I gave it to a friend with a smaller hand . He loves it !
I do have the folder Cuda which is great and I won't give that away ! That's marked CUDA , 154CM ,USA
Those knives came in either ATS34 or the equivalent 154CM .That varied because those steels varied in quality over time !!

I didn't want to come across as questioning the site, as I have no reason to doubt them. Just my mind running wild while I wait for a purchase to arrive, that I've been looking for for a loooooong time.

I was more interested in the variations of the knife that I've seen.

Ratdrall,

Here's the deal on my experience with the CQB 1. I served in Iraq in 2005-2006. I was issued a Terzuola-Camillus CQB S1 during pre-mob with an Army Reserve Ordnance Battalion. It was purchased with non-appropriated funds through the GSA catalog, I think. I was issued a second CQB S1, identical to the first, upon reassignment to the Iraqi Assistance Group, Multi-National Corps-Iraq, in theater, as a special gear augmentation for advisor teams embedded in the Iraqi Army. Both knives are the government contract version of the Cuda commercial version. They do not have "CUDA" etched on the blade, they do have "Camillus". Both are the serrated blade version. On another post - Knife Notes 9 - a 2003 post indicates the Government purchased just under 1,000 for the War on Terror. I suspect this was a trend that continued through 2005 or 2006. The Government contract CQB did not last long after that. I doubt they were produced or purchased by GSA in great numbers. That's all I know.
