Excellent overview Phil.

Regarding the "thumb studs" they are really just blade stop pins that happen to look like thumb studs.

Have you tried "waving" it yet..its sooooo cool.

I bought it from ComTech years ago. I think they actually sell them in more than one size now.

Thanks.

I recall hearing a rumor one time that Robert H. was working on a Concealex one. That'd be pretty kewl.

Very nice review Phil, good pics too. Others have already mentioned that the 'studs' are actually blade stops, so I won't bring it up again. Hmm, I guess I just did anyway. Oops. :p

Ig, at $150 street retail, you aren't going to see the same level of hand-finishing that you will in similarly priced but smaller knives. I have read many reports from forumites who used a dremel to easily remove the laser cutting marks you showed, and as for the edge, I could care less if it's a rough finish as long as it's evenly ground and decently thin. The first thing I do with every knife I own or use is to sharpen it, so the factory finished edge means very little to me. I'm mostly concerned with how close they came, because it saves me a lot of work if I don't need to remove a lot of metal. If a perfect finish is your cup of tea, you can get it on a custom Maxx. If you want a tough, functional knife that needs a little work to be a showpiece, the Camillus Maxx is for you. I can't afford the custom so the Camillus is on my list. Having handled both the custom and production models I think it's the right choice.

Actually, it wasn't evenly ground, but I havn't pic.
I've posted the pics in purpose to give clearer impression. I hadn't possibility to see the knife before buying and I was surprised. Everybody can decide for himself if the knife worth buying, but I think full information is required for this purpose.

Ig, as you knoew, Camillus stands behind their product. What you got was obviously one that slipped through QC. This happens from time to time when you deal with production environment.

However, I have heard Camillus is really working to improve the finish on their knives, even beyond the steps they have taken to date. The rough flippers should be a thing of the past very soon. Wait till you see the CUDA Gibb's! It will be very well done in deed!

Ok, I guess that's fair. I jumped the gun and posted before I read the thread you linked to; actually I had seen it before when you posted it the first time as well. It's all about what makes you happy, since it is your money.

I distrust them both. In the case of framelocks, the framelock is part of the handle so it makes me a little nervous -- but not much. I'm kind of a nervous nellie, anyway.
