Camillus is about ready to ship the Talons! Here's a sneak peek at an actual production sample of the Talon. They have done an excellent job at reproducing Rob Simonich's design.

A pic of the other side of the blade. Though you can barely make it out in this scan but if you look on the blade close to the tang, Simonich's buffalo logo is laser engraved on there.

Real nice factory piece! The sheath is by Blade Tech and is very similar in nature to the CQB-1 sheath. A mini Tek-Lok is supplied to carry the Talon in a variety of carry configurations.

Hats off to the Camillus gang and Rob Simonich for another top quality collaboration knife.

About ready as in, "...this week," "...this month," or "...this year."?

I probably shouldn't have said that, but I just had to. I'm one of the ones getting really frustrated by the continued, "It's almost here" posts. At this point, I'd almost rather hear, "OBTW, we shipped the Talon's last week."

I'm sorry, but that's just the way I feel. Or maybe I'm just in a bad mood this morning.

RockSpyder,
I share your frustration with figuring out when we are going to begin shipping new products. Please realize, the internet, and this wonderful place BLADEFORUMS, is actually part of the problem. In the past, if you really paid attention, you would have just learned of the TALON about 2 weeks ago in BLADE MAGAZINE. Nowhere did it mention a release date. So you would just been sitting out there wondering. Today, with BLADEFORUMS, you are getting the inside scoop, way in advance of 'normal' customers. We provide this info, because the members of BLADEFORUMS ask for it constantly. I just answered another post by you wanting to know when the CQB2 is gonna ship. After reading this, ...should I have not answered you? Remember, we told folks originally that we would ship the TALON in the first part of March I believe[could be wrong but I think that is right, hell, we didn't announce it until ShotShow in January]. So we are just over 2 months late. While we are not proud of this, in the days before the BF, nobody would have even noticed!
We try to give the members of BF the inside scoop the crave and in my opinion, deserve for providing us all the feedback we get. But with the good, comes the bad, like all the delays in production, especially when it involves outside vendors.

Maybe I should not tell members whats going on until AFTER it has happened? That would make my job alot easier...

Once again, sincerely sorry for the delays, we are going nuts trying to make it happen faster.

Gary,
I took a quick cruise around the net the other day, and internet dealers are taking advance orders in the $250-75 average range. I will announce here on the CAMILLUS forum when we begin to ship. Thanbks for your interest!

Will, please see my post in the thread that Bagheera started, regarding cancellation of his order. I think in that post, I was more in line with what you are saying. My post here is more a post of frustration at the repeated "it's almost ready to release," not that it is delayed. Delays happen, we all have to deal with them.

Here is the crux of my problem. In Bagheera's thread, you say that it's getting close, you can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel, but you don't want to jinx yourself. OK, well and good. I almost posted that I was glad to hear that, and appreciated that you said that, but didn't put any new predictions in. Unfortunately, I didn't. Then, I see this thread, and click on it. The first words are "Camillus is about ready to ship the Talons!" {empahsis mine}. Hmmmm... about ready. So, today, tomorrow, next week, next month. THAT is what I'm frustrated with. This post would have been GREAT, whetting my appetite for the Talon, if it hadn't been for that first sentence! That just set off my frustrating reflex again, and left a bad taste in my mouth.

I should emphasize that in waiting for the Talon, I'm also considering buying the Companion right now, AND buying the CQB2 when they are released. I appreciate your phrase answering my CQB2 question to the effect of at least sometime after the Blade Show. No more details given, no more needed. All I asked was if they had been released yet, and I got a great answer, which I appreciate.

I hope you understand. If not, I'll summarize: I'm not frustrated with the delay so much as the repeated (imo) instances of ... well, to quote... "Camillus is about ready to ship the Talons!" And Dexter, please forgive me if this sounds like a slam on you. I guess it is, but it shouldn't be. I apologize. But, I'm going to leave this post as is, so that maybe it will be clear why I'm frustrated.

Thanks for your patience with us (or at least me), Will. I mean that.

Rockspyder,

What Will says is spot on. In their attempts to try to help us get to the front of any queue when new models are in the works, the factory guys sometimes find themselves overtaken by events outside their control.

The situation with the Talon and Camillus is not unique at all. Heck, give the Spyderco Forum a quick cruise and you'll find like scenarios where Sal tried to be a fortune teller too.

My bottom line is simply to appreciate the inside intel, knowing that stuff happens skewing dates, designs, and in the case of the Talon, the original name picked for it.

It'll be well worth the wait!!!
