To the lucky ones that got to purchase one before the closing of the factory, how do you rate the Cuda to other well known tactical folders?

Wich Cuda?

IIRC, cuda was the line. Wich one do you ask for? Maxx? EDC? Necker? CQB?

I personally owned a Maxx, it was nice, well built, strong, but too big to EDC. But it was so slim it was easy to carry.

I think he means the CUDA EDC.

I liked mine, but it was a little too light for me at the time.

I liked the EDC. It came in different blade materials including Talonite. The CUDA Maxx is pretty fun too. Mine came so sharp it sliced me through a tripled up cloth as I was cleaning it one time. It's a D. Ralph design so it can't be that bad, can it? Joe

CUDA stands for Camillus Ultra Design Advantage. They made several folders, a few of which I've owned, not including the the MAXX (always wanted one though). In my experience, they were about on par with tactical folders made by what I considered at the time to be mid-level production companies (CRKT, Timberline, Cold Steel, and Kershaw). I found them lacking compared to Spyderco, Emerson, and Benchmade, companies I considered at the time to offer higher end, tactical folders.

It should be noted though that I now consider Kershaw to be in the "higher end" group, as they've come a long, long way over the past few years.

Hi there!

Here is mine.... CUDA1 Quick Action. I can open this faster than my auto Microtech QD.

The liners are on the thin side, but let me tell you, this is a well made hefty American knife!

The spearpoint style isn't the easiest to come by. If I can find a good one myself, I would buy me a second anytime.

Best wishes,
Edalb

Edalb,
Boy does that bring back memories! Thanks for posting the pic! Can't you just see the Terzuola (ATCF) influence in that one?

Sure... have a look at the following post from the "horse's mouth":

"Gentlemen,
Thanks for the interest. The CUDA Quick-Action folder was not designed by Bob Terzuola[but the CQB-1 was], but there is a connection. CAMILLUS' R&D engineer, Phil Gibbs, and Bob are good friends. When Phil began incorporating the patented CUDA Quick-Action opening mechanisim into a tactical folder, he began with features he personally liked. The Terzuola ATCF is Phil's favorite custom tactical folder. Phil asked Bob if it would be ok for him to use the overall outline and bladeshape. Bob agreed. But since the knife used someone elses opening device, and otherwise different construction, Bob Terzuola did not want to put his name on the design. We agreed.

We then went on to collaborate with Bob on the CQB-1 fixed blade design, and have more fixed blades from Bob in the works. Look for future models to be introduced this summer.

I have one I just got in a trade...looks like a CQB2...I like it quite a bit...fits my hand nicely. The handle is kind of like a "distressed linen" or something...rather like the look of it.

I loved the shape of those and even had a damascus bladed one once upon a time, and yes there is a definate Bob T. design influence there. The only misgivings I ever had with it were those danged .040" thick liners it had to go along the .187" thick blade. It just didn't look right in my eye's. If ever a knife called out for thicker, say .070" to .100" thick liners, this knife did. I further thought that this would have made a killer thumb stud or thumb disc operated knife.

I've still got mine and will keep it. Mine has the 154CM blade .I rate it highly ,excellent steel , well made ,great design ,ugly. But like all good things they stopped making it !!

I have a Cuda EDC from AG Russell with the Crucible D2 blade. I really like the knife, I only wish it was just a little larger. I have had it about 6 years. Very smooth action.

What, no mention of the Dominator? I still think it was one of their top quality knives ever made by Camillus. Mine is kicking strong, and there is no way I'd ever get rid of it.

I just saw a Dominator Tanto in black go for over $600 on ebay! They are good, but not that good!

Daniel

looks pretty nice, and this is the first reply on the forum.

I am looking for some info about boker brend which liner lock seems little bit weak but good other wise. I am also going to get some spedies like manix, millie and persion. bm 940 and 912d2/913d2 are also considered in mind.

I wanna get one or more for edc use and sd purpose.

And this cuda looks better than that boker, but I can't find one on the local market or

Daniel, thanks for bringing up the dominator. I love the action on mine, though I got the tanto ( only one in stock when I bought it). It's very well made and does fire good for an assisted opener. Another one I miss still being in production. When I can locate them, the clip blade models are selling for a lot more nowadays.

I did see an unmarked ( not even import stamp) knock off in black clip blade version at the last gunshow going for less than 100$ ( first clue it was bogus). Be aware there are fairly decent looking knock offs out there now. Frame was steel, which is likely why they picked the black version. I haven't seen any satin yet though It's probably a matter of time. I haven't seen any bootleg Max's yet, probably too expensive to make passable looking. EDC's were bootlegged before Camillus went under. Joe

Yes thank you both for bringing up the Dominator.

I bought my Dominator about a year before Camillus closed. I wanted one for a while but kept putting it off.

One day I got an email sale list from a dealer and the tanto Dominator was on the list. They only had one in stock and the price was right, so I jumped on it. It's still one of my favorite knives and one I won't sell. Mr. Ralph's design of the A/O feature is amazing.... I love that "kick" when it opens.

Hello everyone I just acquired and old Camillus Cuda USA with Damascus blade. trying to take it apart to clean off the superficial rust on the blade. I cannot separate the blade from the left half of the handle where the slide mechanism is any advise. thanks Russ
