I have lots of modern folders as well as some Opinels, but I always wanted a 3 blade traditional folder. Most of what I found locally were either too small and/or too rusted/chipped/hard-to-open. Well today I picked up a Camillus De Luxe Premium Stock Knife in used but working condition with only standard patina and edge wear.

I thought the number on the blade was the year it was made but turned out to be the model number which is pretty cool, it is #69 on page 26 here: http://www.collectors-of-camillus.us/Catalogs/1946-Camilluss.pdf

Mine doesn't have the sheild but rather a narrow pointed oval plate. Anyone have an idea to what year this one was made by the plate?

PS: Page 6 of this pdf has a pic of my knife on the right of the page http://www.oregonknifeclub.org/Newsletter 0803.pdf. I paid $20 for mine and at that price have no problem using it as a user.

Is it bone handled or is it Delrin? That would tell a lot. If you can post a picture showing the tang stamp, that would be good too. The 69 is a nice slim stockmen.

That is the one. I also said mine was in the photo in the second PDF.

Tang stamp is often said to be 60s-70s but I was wondering if the oval was also an indication kinda like Buck used sysmbols on the tang stamp. They used the sheild in 1946.

Great knife. I have a Kabar 4" premium stockman made in the late '90s which is undoubtedly the same make. The Kabar has delrin covers and plain bolsters, but otherwise the same pattern. It's a great user.

Yep, the Kabar 1108 is the Chevrolet compared to the Camillus 69 Cadillac. I like my Kabar - with the rounded bolsters it is a good front pocket 4" knife. OH

If you mean, SirJames, that the knife you own is the actual knife in that PDF, that is a bone handle and answers my question. And the older 69 pattern, like you mention, when made in the 1940's did have a shield that was more of a federal shield shape, rather than the oval shield. The shields were not used as dating indicators, but sometimes a change can help determine differences. The oval shaped shield is more common, probably used from the 60's for 40+ years or so.

From the 1975-77 catalog, though I'm sure those aren't the only years it was made

After some use:

Good, honest working knives. Enjoy!

Here's a red bone version with the oval shield. Not sure when it was made.

And a Schrade Walden built on the same size frame.
