Greetings All,

I would like to try my hand at customizing my Dominator today and have a couple of quick questions I am sure someone here can help me with.

My first question, does anyone have a picture of this knife disassembled. I don't mind taking my knives apart, but the robo assist has me abit worried about problems with reassembly. I am sure someone along the lines posted an "innards" picture and possibly even steps taken??

My second question is, I would like to anodize this with a tiger stripped pattern using heat. Would a propane torch work?? Is there a technique I should be aware of??

Any help would be appreciated and I will be sure to post pictures if I complete this one as I would like Thanks

Well I took apart anothe Titanuim knife to experiment with and the propane torch didn't change the color at ALL :( However, the torch was low on fuel and didn't burn as hot as a new tank would I am sure. Any suggestions?

I think the guys use WD40 as well...make sure your surface is clean...

Hey TBG,

Can't help you on the torching part, but I've had Dominators apart many times and there is nothing complicated about it. If you've taken any linerlock or framelock apart, it shouldn't be a problem for you. The most difficult part will be getting the spring bar that powers the Robo mechanism out of the handle. It's pinned in place, but the bar is under tension; I've never been able to get it out. Hopefully, someone here can shed some light on that.

I do, however, have one hint: when you disassemble the knife, make sure you note the locations of the 3 standoffs. They LOOK the same, but I've found that if you don't put them back where they started, the operation of the knife may be affected. I think that the subtle differences in height can affect the relationship between the blade and the pivot and the blade and the locking bar.

Good luck, post your results if you get the knife torched.

Thanks Klesk for the tip, I will be sure to keep that in mind. Once I get some flame advise, I will get the show on the road ;)

on my old Dominator, the spring bar came out easily, but the new one i have seems lamost press fit in. i did manage to get the apring bar out, by gently prying it very slowly. i used a jeweller's flat head screwdriver. no damaging effects on the knife after it was reassembed. make sure the knife is opened up before u disassemble.

of note, my newer Dominator was FILTHY on the inside and need a very good cleaning.

I believe I have an earlier run of the Dominator. I have the white nylon (or whatever) washers in mine. Are all the new ones using bronze washers? Should I send mine in for an upgrade?

old and new Dominators r stillusing the white washers. DDR was seeling the ones he had with the upgrade to bronze phospher. from the factory, u get the nylon washers.
