I am trying to decide between the two. D2 is better steel and I like the matching hardware. 154cm is cheaper by almost half but I don't care for the black hardware.

Any thoughts from you guys (besides buy both and a matching talonite)? :D

I have them both myself! both good knives!! The d-2 is harder to sharpen, but you can strop the edge if you do not let it get dull first! the 154 is easier to sharpen, strop, ect. and yes the finish isnt the prettiest on this verison, but myself though I like it, it is somewhat durable. Awhile back I spoke to wendy there at warranty who saud they were probably going to discontinue the black finish on those and go to the plain satin bead blast (like the original 420 models).

all in all they are both good knives, and when comparing both steels, for a carrying knife, you cant go wrong with either!!!

For me D2 takes a much better edge. It will also stand up to wear better. I would only go for the 154 if I expected corrosion problems.

I will throw in my vote for the D2 version. I am a huge fan of D2 steel, and this knife has a very nice feel. The blade is good and sharp right out of the box, and unless you flat out neglect the blade you shouldn't have any corrosion problems.

In my opinion,I like D2 as compared with 154CM.
154CM was called "CM-154" several years ago.
In order to get many hit numbers by web search engine,
its name was changed.CM is a length unit of 1/100 meter.
So many heigh data of persons, etc are hit by search engine.
In case that there is no difference between D2 and 154CM,
I think that choice of D2 is better.

Have both - D2 for reasons stated above - 154CM is fine also if cost or corrosion a problem.

Wow, interesting.

As to which one is better, I've noticed my AFCK (in D2) holds an edge slightly better than my 154CM E.D.C. However, the blade length might be affecting this result. Additionally, on a recurve knive most of my slicing cuts only use the front "belly" area, so the blade length is effectively even shorter.

D2 would get my vote. It should hold an edge longer than the 154CM and takes a nice slightly toothy edge that grabs onto your cutting media.

I haven't personally experienced the Airdi D2 enhanced (IIRC) used in the EDC, but do own D2 knives and my son has an EDC in 154CM.
