I have just recieved my Camillus EDC and was wondering about the numbering that is on the blade. It reads 1 of 500. Did Camillus only make 500 of these knives? Is this a knife I should consider holding on to or use as an every day knife? Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi Peter
The very first run of EDC knives with 154cm blades were all marked 1 of 500. There were 500 in the first run.

Enjoy

Peter,

I think that you will be very pleased with that little knife. (It would be "nice" to see a larger version sometime in the future, 'tho...hint, hint...).

I was very impressed with the one that I received. The materials and fit was perfect on mine. Camillus has alot of very good knives that are excellent values, and the EDC is right near the top!

PS...USE that knife! Don't just let it sit in a drawer.:).

Glockman,

No kidding, if Camillus made a slightly larger version of their "EDC" i'd probably buy it on the spot!

Thanks for the reply. That was my reason for buying in the first place. I was looking for a smaller knife that might not intimidate the sheeple as much.

PG, give that knife the honor of giving you years of use. Don't throw it in a drawer somewhere because you think it will be worth money some day. It is worth more as a user today than most knives costing twice as much. Go get it dirty and smile when you do, because you may very well have bought the best your money could buy.

You guys want a bigger one? Why? That thing is perfectly sized. If you want a bigger one you should call Darrel. I bet he'd have some ideas for ya. :)

I want a bigger one because my hands are WAAAY too big fo' dat... stick another .7" on the handle and we'll talk.

I'll repeat what the other guys said:) Use it! It really is a good user. I don't think it will ever go up in monetary value enough to forgo the years of use and satisfaction it will give you. I got one and I had to "tune it up" a bit before I was satisfied with the way the action and lockup worked, but I have the strong impression that my experience with having to do that was quite the exception and I'm quite happy with the result. It is what's in my pocket right now, after all.:D

BTW, when I was trying to figure out how best to adjust the blade tension and the lock tension so that it didn't take 3 hands or a hydraulic press to unlock, I got plenty of support (right here on BladeForums) from both Will Fennel of Camillus and from Darrel Ralph himself. I don't see how you could go wrong with this knife (except if your hands are like YC's and just way too big for the handle).

Oh, yeah, one other thing, although it's a pretty nice package and all, you do still have to make some allowance for the sheeple. At least some of those of my acquaintance have, if not quite spooked, at least done a bit of double-take on it. The blade is less than 3" long, but the design makes it look just huge in comparison with most of my 3" and under folders. Still, I haven't hesitated to let people see it.:)
