Hi everyone. I just received these two knives recently and was surprised how similar they were. On doing a search, I found that the issue has come up before. However, I already took the pics so you might want to look at them anyway. :)

The pictures highlight the design similarities of the two knives. I personally find the EDC to have the edge in the looks department, partly because of the shape of the pocket clip, though the Vapor has a really nice cut out for the lock release. The Vapor seems to have slightly thicker handles, which means the integral lock would be stronger. Then again the lock up on both is very secure.
Bad points? The thumb stud on the Vapor, as has been pointed out before, is POINTY!, it definitely needs to be sanded or filed down. I found the "saber grind" on the EDC to be a bit... wimpy? It would benefit from a more precise and dramatic grind.
I got the Vapor from Bayou Lafourche for $21, a 3 1/2" blade version is available for $24. The EDC came from Knife Outlet for $50. I can recommend either as an inexpensive "edc", and for those of you who find the EDC to be just a bit short, the 3 1/2" Vapor might be an acceptable substitute.
John.

I plan on Buying the Vapor soon glad to see that you liked it, i was looking at both the EDC and the Vapor at a knife store and i noticved that i cannot open the EDC, the stud placement in relation to the pivot was all wrong for me. But the vapor opened easily and quikly.

I have both the large and small Vapors...both are excellent budget knives...plus you can get both of them for the price of the edc! :)

I am bummed at the single thumbstud...but I'll fix that soon enough. ;)

Nice pictures.

I've been thinking of picking up an EDC in D2 from Russell's so thanks for the reminder. ;) I had one of the first ones in 420HC, which wasn't too bad, but I ended up selling it off.

That Vapor looks really nice as well, yet I've yet to handle one in person. I just wish they could shoehorn the SpeedSafe mechanism in there- now that'd be something!

I bet the SpeedSafe would triple the cost of the knife...lots more work to be done to add that in. But it'd be a damn cool knife!

Purchased a Vapor II about 2 months ago. Very impressed with the value for money. I particularly like the "Sebenza" look. It will never be a Sebenza, but minus the speed safe mechanism it's a very affordable working stiff's knife :)

Like the vapor. Thinking of possibly purchasing one now, no thanx to you JohnF. You've just made my wallet slimmer:D :D :D

Now the question is... Vapor I... or II?

I'd prefer II.

DEVILZ BLADE, I feel your pain, man. Soon you'll be getting junk
e-mail offering debt consolidation and low second mortgage rates!
But look at it this way, it's your duty as an American in this time of crisis to support the declining economy anyway you can. Think of it as your patriotic duty to buy knives, beer and expensive cars... or at least knives! :)
John.

My opinion? They are cheap enough, why not get both? Besides, they are a limited run of only 1000 pieces IIRC, so whichever one you don't like will probably find a new home pretty quick. :)

The vapor is a nice EDC knife. It is a versatile size and the blade shape is very useful. The only gripe I have with mine is that the thumbstud was f*&%'n sharp!! The damned thing felt like a thumbtack!

I almost didn't buy it because of that, but I bought it anyway and sanded it down a little. Works great now!

JohnF you got me LMAO!:D :D :D I'm from Australia:D Well anyway thanx for the laugh but any knife i buy i have to think about it for at least a couple of weeks as its costs double down here. Actually the American dollar is 2.5 times stronger than the Australian dollar.

Sux tohugh. A knife cost $35 there and it would cost around $70 here. Beleive me its harder being a knife nut in Australia.

Is this now PROOF that Ken and Tom Mayo have been seen drinking together and having very serious talks about "holes";) :D

I have not seen one "live" yet, but the Vapor sure looks quality.....wolf...

What are the specs and the price?;) ;) THANKS.......wolf

Wolfmann, the blade of the Vapor is AUS6A and the handles are 410 stainless.
Devilz Blade, look at it this way, buy a Vapor and you can revitalize the economies of the US (Hawaii especially), Japan (where the knife is made)and Australia. Think of what this will do for international relations and world peace! Naaah, I don't buy that either. Maybe the beer option is the one you should look into?
BTW, a woman I work with just came back from Australia where she was visiting her boyfriend. How about that for a long distance relationship! Jeez, I'd think even phone sex would be prohibitively expensive under those circumstances!
John.

Devilz Blade, I feel your pain!! Try being a knife nut in South Africa where the exchange rate is now at R10.74 to the Dollar and falling every day :( This is NOT conducive to buying imported knives as the prices go up very often to conmpensate for exchange rates.

I feel your pain..... Nevertheless, I thought the Vapor II was good value for money.
