Been awhile since I have posted, but need some assistance.

Looking at getting my groomsmen each a Camillus EDC, but my question is the blade at the pricepoint I am looking at ($27/ea) is only AUS 8, instead of the 154cm that I had been used to seeing. I also saw the AUS 8 version was made in Taiwan.

Is the AUS 8 version decent, or really just a POS?

None of my groomsmen are into knives, but I want to get them something that I appreciate and enjoy, along with it being decent quality.

Please let me know your thoughts, and any suggestions.

Thanks,

Camillus is having that knife made at the same location as the 'HEAT' series.
AUS-8 is a good steel and I think this knife is far from a POS.
Good Collecting !

I didn't even know they were making a cheaper version. The 154CM versions are still available for about $50. AUS-8 isn't a bad steel for a knife, not as good as 154CM, but not bad either.

Especially since the EDC is a small pocketknife, not a larger heavy duty utility folder, the AUS-8 will do just fine.

If the Camillus Heats I've seen are any indication, this will be a good knife.

Thanks everyone.... Its just been awhile since I have even adorned myself with a nice new blade, I was more concerned when I saw the made in Taiwan, but as most venues are always looking for cheaper labor.... I just wanted to start a few friends (for my Best Man I may get the 154cm version :) ) off with a decent blade.....btw now found the AUS 8 versions for $24

Thanks again...

This is my favorite Camillus pocket knife. Then again, it's my only Camillus pocket knife. Anyone know what kind of steel this knife has?

I have both EDC's. I can't tell the difference in quality. BUY IT!!!!!! You won't be dissapointed.

I recently got a Talonite EDC in a trade and have been very impressed with the over all form factor and design of the knife. It's a comfortable but slim size. You can wear it in several places comfortably and count on a pretty good grip for a smaller knife. The recurve blade grind loves to cut:) I'm much more impressed with it than I expected. It's truly a great cutting tool. I had been thinking that the 154CM version of the EDC would likely make it on the Christmas list for a couple friends in 2005.

With the introduction of an AUS8 version of the EDC available for around $25.00 I can see replacing my first edition AUS6 Kershaw Vapor that lives in my shaving kit for airplane rides. I'm sure it would serve me fine and hold an edge better than the Vapor. I'll have to buy one to check it out, but this could become the reference $20.00 entry level knife that I would recommend to non-knife-nut friends.
