Camillus EDC opening

I have a Camillus EDC frame lock with the 154CM blade. I love the knife except for one thing... It's a real bitch to open quickly with one hand unless you hold it exactly right. Once you get the blade past the initial "push", it opens smoothly. Giving that initial "push" to get the blade slightly out of the handles is the tough part.

Does anybody else have this problem? Does anybody know of a way to fix it?

Thanks.

How long have you had your EDC? I have had mine for several months now and it is REAL smooth. When I first got mine it was a little stiff to operate. I flicked and flicked and finally it got broke in. My ball dent is still real tight, and I'm glad, it feels secure when closed but with a firm flick of the thumb it flies open. I have big hands and the smaller knife did take some getting use to but now it's out and open without a thought. I'm not saying that breaking your knife in is the answer but it worked for me.

One thing I have noticed is that now if I flick the knife repeatedly, like when I get nervous, the action gets slower after a few minutes. If I let the knife rest for a while it slicks back up. Go figure. I don't know if the repeated friction causes this or what.

Anyway, practice makes... well you know.

I haven't clean or lubed it yet as it is brand new, but I can give it a try.

I predict a noticeable difference, especially from cleaning and lubing of the detent track on the blade. :-)

I have found the same thing with the EDC, but think the stiffness has to do with the prominent ball detent. Once you get the blade deployed past the ball, it moves with relative ease.

Two-edged sword, you want a good detent, but want easy deployment. On a small, light bladed knife like the EDC, I think Camillus made it right. Probably over a few hundred deployments, the lock will ease up a bit and it will be smoother.

I love the strong ball detent on mine. Sure wouldn't want the killer sharp blade on one of these to open up on me.

Only had mine for a fortnight, mine was stiff out of the box too but lubing and plenty of use (since I open/cut/close w/my EDC 100-300 times per night at work) it's now glassy smooth. Also flicking it with the thumb rather than pushing the stud opens it a)as fast as an auto and b)without noticeable resistance from the detent. Can't wrist-flick it open though, which is obviously a Good Thing.

my story's pretty much the same as 3nails and shortgoth's
hard to get past the detent in the beginning, got easier over time. Still a very strong and confidence inspiring detent, but you can really just "pop" it open, opening it to me is alot like a Kershaw speed-safe (an authoritative push on the stud and BOOM! its open!).
