Camillus EDC Vs. Kershaw Vapor

Just received my EDC this evening, so I can not give a fully honest comparison yet. These two knives seem remarkably similar to me, with the largest difference being blade shape. My Vapor has the 50/50 (only because it was the last japan made left in the walmart) while my EDC has a straight edge. I will modify this post after about a week of use/carry on the EDC, but if anyone would like to offer their opinions I would be inr=terested in hearing them. By the way, right of the bat.. the EDC has an edge on the vapor as far as blade shape, but the vapor beets all comers in the price department...

Isn't the EDC made with 154CM (very good steel) whereas the Kershaw is made with AUS6 or 420 (mediocre steel)? That's my understanding. So to me the EDC seems like a much more desireable knife. Then there's the American made thing.

Don't get me wrong, there seems to be a lot of knives out there that won't hold up when compared to the Vapor. I even gave my neighbor one for his birthday last month. He loves it, even if it is the Chinese version. He's a plumber with no sharpening stones, so the soft steel should actually be an advantage here as it'll be easier for me to touch up for him. Prior to getting the Vapor he was carrying a $2.99 3" closed plastic handled folder!

PS: Oh yeah, what about the Talonite EDC?

How are the Kershaw Vapors anyway? The Wal Mart by my house has 'em for $20 and I might just pick one up for the heck of it.

Had bouth of them (couple days ago my CUDA EDC was stolen) from some time, and I'll choose EDC over VAPOR anytime.
I like better blade shape of EDC,
better steel (there are 2 versions of EDC, similar price. 154CM is preferable :),
It took some additional oiling go get vapor actions smooth (it not the real problem)

anyway, I like looks and geels of EDC better too (my personal opinion)

P.S. one more thing vapors pointy thumbstud isn't very finger friendly :)

SarcoBlaster, the Vapors are surprisingly well made considering the budget price. The first ones were made in Japan, but current ones are made in China and quality control is very good for a $20.00 knife. The steel is AUS-6 which is not the top of the line, but very usable despite what the steel snobs say. I agree that the thumbstud isn't very finger friendly and I also think the Kershaw could have supplied a better pocket clip, but that's my own opinion.

The Camillus EDC is available in 420HC, 154CM and Talonite and the fit and finish of the EDC is better than the Vapor's in my opinion, but the Vapor is still a great buy.

I don't think the 420HC version has been available since the first run.

I handled an EDC at the mall knife store a while back. I found it to be smaller than I thought, and kinda sharp around the edges.

In my pocket right now is a Kershaw Vapor II. Ken has a mold of my hand somewhere 'cause it was made for me. As has been said, it hasn't got 'wonder steel' but I can't sharpen very well and I got this sharp enough!

I'm carrying this V II as a regular Vapor is still sweet, but if I need to defend I wan't this bigger blade.

Run, don't walk down to Wallyworld and get a Vapor, you will not regret it!
