Because I could get the EDC in 420HC for $39.99 I went ahead and did it. I am feeling like I should have got the 154CM version but I didn't because of price and difficulty of sharpening because of the blade shape. I have a feeling that the 420 will be tough enough for me to get right on my sharpmaker because of the recurve. I don't get to use my knives all that often so will the 420 work well for me if that is the case? This has been driving me crazy all day.

Good choice on the EDC. I really think you would be surprised though how easy it is to sharpen a recurve with the sharpmaker.

I concur with Dennis about sharpening recurves on the Sharpmaker. I sharpen both the recurve blade on my Carnivore Cub and grown up Carnivore. Very easy to do.

The sharpmaker makes it very easy to do.

If you had the 154CM model you would not have to sharpen as often

With recurved blades, I think you are better off using just the corners of the stones, rather than the "flats". If you hold the flat portion of the stone against the recurved part of the blade, you'll see why.

I ordered the EDC 154-CM. Have grown a bit paranoid with all my AUS6 CRKTs, tho I do so little cutting it probably really doesn't matter.

I bought the knife - when will it get here? -- for 3 better than average reasons:
1) I've decided I want to try to get all of Darrel Ralph's collaborations, yes, even the S&W. 2) I really wanted a frame lock knife. Since I first read about one -- the S-2, have always thought that the simplicity of them, plus the added power of the grip, make them the most sensible lock around.
3) I will have to get a Sharpmaker, or somethinng similar like AG Russell's field kit with the diamond rods, to be able to sharpen it.

Isn't that a lot better than a simple, "I gotta have it!"?? (Don't forget the steel rationale above either)

Thanks guys. You definately made me feel good about my choice. Just another note. What do you think of the Michael Walker Boker G10 (product #BO 2207 I think.) I am thinking about this one as well.

Bigbass, since you carry the moniker of my favorite fighting fish, I shall put your mind at ease.

You will be very pleased with the performance of the 420HC as installed on your EDC. No problem whatsoever sharpening it on the Sharpmaker. And if you get in a hurry, try what I do. Just reach into the kitchen drawer (or butcher block) and haul out the sharpening steel. Zing, Zing, Zing..... ready to roll.

Don't lose any sleep, ya done good.

Thanks Velitrius for the words of confidence. Your review of the EDC actually was one of the things that influenced me to get the EDC. Oh, and a belated congrats on the Contest Win. I can't wait to get my EDC.
