Well I picked up a Camillus EDC3 framelock last week from my local big box store for $20. It felt nice and sturdy with no blade play. so I figured heck what's not to like? I haven't tried the new Camillus yet so I figured I'd give it a go. The handle was pretty comfortable even in my mitts (I wear a size L in gloves).
Specs: 3" Blade
OAL: Approx 6 7/8"
Aluminum Frame lock (they say it's a linerlock, but it's a frame lock.)
AUS-8 Steel
First Impressions:
Not the best steel, but not too shabby. The knife came out of the box razor sharp (hair shaving so) and it felt real solid in the hand. The lockup was a little too far over for my liking 60% or so. This should have been my first clue. :thumbdn:
Using It:I EDC'd it for about 5 days doing my regular cutting tasks, boxes, flex hose, gas line, bow serving, tape, paracord and the like. The blade stayed super sharp. The good ends there. The lockup went to 100% on me and jammed. The lock bar refused to budge. I finally managed to pry it away from the opposite side of the frame with my fingers to get it closed. The lock bar bent outward and now when I open the knife it will absolutely not lock. This shouldn't be a problem in any knife especially not a problem in a knife just a week old. It will be getting exchanged for something else.
As you can see from the awful pic above (maybe) the frame now does not contact the blade
Thanks for reading y'all.
Edit: I got the pictures up, but they are of mediocre quality, evidently the good ol' camera met her match on the last fishing outing so the cheap MP3 player camera was used.
