Hello guys. I have several older tl-29 Government Issue knifes. They have some sentimental value to me so I do not want to use them at work. I am a third generation electrician and have several family members who also work the trade. I have the current run of the knife that was my fathers it's called the Electrician Knife (#27B). It's a good knife and have been using it for about 4 years now and love it. But my father recently passed away and I do not want to lose the knife. I have seen the Kline version of this knife and have been told that Camillus makes it for Kline. I bought one for a fellow Electrician that works with me and have notice that this knife will gather surface rust easy. The Camillus that I use has never shown any signs of rust. Is this true as far as the Kline knife being a Camillus? Also does anyone know where I can purchase a new Camillus TL-29 knife? I prefer the black handle one the government uses. Thanks for any help guys.

I have one of these that my father used, it's one of my most treasured knives. He was a communications person for the Air Force during the Korean war, and worked 20 years at GTE, his is an old black handled one, I have always wanted to know if he was issued it (personel that did his job in the A.F. were issued this knife), or if he got it working at GTE. He died when I was 9.

As far as I know Kleins are still guarranteed for life . In the last decade I have noticed a deklein in quality . Bits popping off screwdrivers . Rivets holding something together made with a slightly softer inferior metal . I guess they figured out they could make them a bit cheaper and still make a profit guarranteeing them for life . So much for quality . I know this doesn,t answer your question directly . It may give you a different perspective .

Nice to see another electrician that carrys a real 'trade' knife. My own electrician's knife is the Swiss Army Model, but hanging on my tool belt is a Camillus 1B hawkbill for stripping heavy cable and cutting anything bid and bad.

Yes, Camillus still makes the electrician knife, model 1770, I believe it is the same as the TL-29, it is stainless, you can see it at the Camillus site, check under military knives for the black handle, and under Dura-Tool for the jigged handle:

Thanks Don!
I have a knife like that which was issued to me in the Marine Corps. It was issued to most aviation mechanics. I carried at all through my tour in the Marine Corps including Vietnam and it's still scary sharp to this day. Great piece of steel! I have a second one that I found a wall locker in Iwakuni Japan. Some bozo had tried to grind down the screwdriver blade and make a knife blade out of it. Of course he wasn't too successful. But the main blade of that knife is in good shape too.
I noticed that according to Camillus' web site the blade is made with stainless steel. That's too bad. The two knives that I have are excellent carbon steel blades. It's nice to know that one can still find the knife, but it's too bad they changed from carbon steel.
