i have a question about the camillus/jerry fisk OVB bowies. i had one in hand today at my local knife dealer's and loved it. it was the large southwest pattern with maple handle. for all it's size it was VERY light and fast in hand and really felt wonderful and lively. i'm definitely going to put some money aside for that one.

my question is, does anybody know what the tang is like or how it'd stand up to use? anybody use one or own one? i certainly wouldn't be using it for anything rough, but i'm just curious. any input is appreciated.

I have the smaller one and have beat it up pretty good with no ill effects, and I had thinned out the edge and sanded out a POORLY done 'choil' for your index finger(i had a good buzz and overdid it ;-) So even with that the handle has held up fine, no loosening or cracking.
The tang, if I remember right is just like what Mr. Fisk uses on his customs, hidden and runs almost to butt of the handle, so pretty solid.

Hope that helps a little bit:thumbup:

thanks for the response. can i ask what you've used it for? woodcraft, batoning, etc.

nice name, too. :D that wouldn't happen to be the cause of said buzz, would it? ;-)

I have one. Fiddleback maple.

Was on BFC Chat one night and happened into J Fisk his-self. He told me... "It was made to work, Go Forth."

Seemed like good advice, so I did.

I come across the one in Desert Ironwood, I'm adding it to my collection. It's a hell of a knife, arguably the best blade I ever owned.

Get it, you won't regret it. (Hey, I's a poet and didn't know it.)
