I am looking for a traditional type folder for hunting. I like the shorter blade on the Single Blade Lockback (#C1) made by Camillus. Can anyone offer any information related to the quality of the steel and manufacturing by Camillus? Any other suggestions for a reasonably priced (less than $50) folder?

Thanks.

The Camillus knives I have are all good quality, especially for their price point.

At their outlet store http://www.camillusknives.com/store/s-pages/1sframe.html they have a Model #C6SOZ Easy Open Folding Hunter, 3-3/8" hollow ground 420HC stainless steel blade with thumb hole, for under $20.00. I've got another model in this steel, and it sharpens easily and takes a wicked edge. Should be a solid performer.

Camillus now uses 440A satinless or 1095 carbon
steel for their "everyday" knives. Both are good
"everyday" steel with first rate production quality
The knife your refer to is 440A stainless and
should do well for you. If any problems come up
Camillus customer service is first rate. :D :D

I have the Camillus pattern you mentioned (C1). I would question it's usefullness as a hunting knive. It is SMALL, only a 2 1/2" blade. I would classify it as a "gents folder" YMMV

1SKS lists the blade at an even smaller 2". If you want a Camillus, and they are very good knives for the money, they have a Medium Lockback for $31.99 at 1SKS with a 2 3/4" blade.

On Ebay theres a nice Camillus lockback that's 4 1/4" closed.

Hope you find something that you like, that will do the job.

Thanks for the feedback. Its obvious that Camillus manufactures a good quality product at the right price point. Related to the point made that was made about the size of the knife for hunting, it may be to short? However it would be perfect for smaller game. I have a sheath knife for deer.

I am still going to consider various folders, this is definitely an option still to be considered.

" to short for hunting"?? No, I don't think so as
long as you take something to break bone if need be

Remember, the 5,000 yr old "Ice Man" carried a
copper ax and a 2 1/2" flint knife to hunt with !
