Long story short, I showed the clerk at a local knife shop the little pocketknife I've been carrying since my grandmother passed away last year. I like it because it's so small that it's adorable, but this guy suggested that it was probably pretty valuable as an antique, so I thought I'd try to find out more.

This knife is about an inch and a half long and half an inch wide. It's covered in what the store clerk swore was genuine mother-of-pearl and has "Camillus has the edge" engraved on one side in red letters. There's also a small loop on one end, like it could be attached to a keychain.

What research I've been able to do online says that the slogan engraved on it dates from the late 1940s, but that's all I know about it. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forums! You are probably right about the date, Camillus seemed to have started using the slogan 'camillus has the edge' immediately post-war. My catalog pages are limited, I can't find a knife that matches the measurements of yours. Handles could be what Camillus called 'Pyroxlyin', a celluloid. Can you post a photo for us? If not, see my email address in my profile and mail me one. Note: No camera? Try laying the knife on your flatbed scanner.

The real Camillus factory guys will be back here Monday, perhaps they can help.

Phil
