You'll enjoy that knife... a lot.
I EDC'd it for a while, but it's a little thick and clunky and the clip always got caught on things. It still sees almost daily use around the house for cutting food, and as a bad-ass letter opener.
The blade shape is nearly perfect and the handle design is great, but what else would you expect from Darrell Ralph? It locks up solid as a rock and Camillus' AUS8 seems to be heat treated better than most.
The pouch that comes with it is kinda silly and not fitted to the knife, so I don't really know what the point of it was. But the little torx key was a nice addition.
For 50 bucks the Heat seems to be the way to go, would a RSK or Al Mar at well over twice the price be that much better??
It would depend on your uses. I think the Heat would stand up pretty well to some moderately heavy duty cutting. The lock is pretty solid, so I think it would be ok. Where it may not be as good is in the edge holding. But, it's an easy knife to sharpen. So you get trade offs here and there in all knives. There will always be better knives out there. Better doesn't always mean more expensive though. There will always be knives that are better suited to certain tasks than others. For medium duty EDC, the Heat is a fine choice.
I'd say the Heat and Ka-Bar Dozier knives are probably the best value on the market right now (at least in terms of tacticals). It's a great knife.
