Camillus heat vs. the speed assist competion (Kershaw, Sog)

Can't tell you how the Camillus heat compares since I have not handled one.

But FWIW I can tell you that I have EDC'd at home a Kershaw Leek for well over a year and I find it hard to imagine much that could be improved - in fact I liked the Leek so much that I upgraded to the black "boron" (actually now tungsten DLC) coated version -

The Kershaw Ken Onion Speed-Safe assisted opening has been around long enough that they've had a time to get it right.

Please see these reviews:

As far as the mechanism goes, the Speedsafe design is the best imho. If there's something else you like about the other models that you feel is more important than the assisted opening mechanism... well you'll have to decide that for yourself :)

How does the Robo-Assist compare to the Speedsafe? Which one is more reliable? Which one has smoother action?

I can compare the Heat, Leek, and Twitch XL (with heavy duty spring). The heat is the strongest spring out of the bunch. It flies open so hard that you have to put more effort into holding the knife than the other two.

I can't speak on reliability of the Heat since I don't use it. The first Leek I bought already has problems with the spring (it doesn't always open the blade all the way like it used to), it was my only EDC for about 1 year. I got the Twitch 2 XL used and with an aftermarket spring, I've EDCed it on and off for about 3 months and it still opens fast with no problems but It doesn't want to jerk out of my hand like the Heat.

I don't know if the size and weight of the Heat have anything to do with how hard it flies open. To me, it seems like the strongest.

Quick video comparison I just recorded:
