I attended the Camillus Cutlery auction to purchase some items for my collection and to acquire some memorabilia for the Camillus Historical Society. The cutlery was such an important part of the local community that reminders of the company should be preserved in Camillus. Several items were donated to the CHS and I want to thank the donors.
The donations include:
The WWII plaque that lists the Camillus employees that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Steve Koonz of Smokey Mountain Knife Works has offered the plaque to be on permament loan to the CHS as long it is displayed for public viewing.
Several scrapbooks filled with Camillus advertising and newspaper articles were donated by Mark Schmutz of Brown Bark I and NC Ventures. Mark also donated a brass plaque dated 1940 that was installed in the first floor of the office building.
Nick Trbovich (Ontario Knife Co.) and Ken Griffey (Bear & Son Cutlery) donated a large quantity of property maps to the CHS. These maps date from 1930 onward and show the evolution of the cutlery buildings.
Thank to everyone for your thoughtful donations. The residents in the Camillus are very appreciative of your generousity.
