Hello everyone. This is my first post so please forgive any mistakes. I'm thinking of auctioning two Camillus knives on ebay. These are 9 1/2 inches long with 5 inch gray (parkerized?) blades and two lanyard holes in the guard and have "Camillus N.Y. 2- 1972" on the pommel. The problem is that I received three of these knives loose along with 24 (twenty-four) sheaths. There are several kinds of sheaths and two types are good fits. I'm wondering which sheath goes with these knives. Both type of sheaths are stitched and riveted leather with holders for sharpening stones on the front (stone reads: "C280 PV A product by Norton Pike"). One has a squared bottom covered with brass or something similar and is 9 3/4 inches long. The other is pointed with a two holes for a lanyard or tie-down and is 10 1/2 inches long. Only a couple of these sheaths have ever had a knife in them (are the sheaths alone worth anything?) and, as the knives are new looking, I would like to include the best of the right kind of sheath with the auction. My father-in-law was an engineer for Camillus during the early seventies and at that time any product he was working on and brought home (dozens of Camillus and Buck along with a few Kabar) was kept in a file drawer in his house in Syracuse and just stayed there till his passing. I am going to keep one example of each knife from his estate and sell the rest, so I'll likely have many more questions in the future. This is sort of new to me so any advice is welcome. Thankyou.

It sounds like you have already found the correct sheaths. Both are right for the knives. The ones with the NortonPike stones. The knife is called the 'Jet Pilot Survival knife', and yep, they were issued to Pilots. See the Camillus website for a pic of knife and sheath.

There seems to be a glut of Ontario and Camillus Jet Pilots on ebay right now, particularly from the year 1984. I don't know if too many were made that year, or not enough issued. I picked up a few for $10 to 18 dollars each within the last month. (My favorite knife, as I carried one in VN- No, I was not a pilot, but they were plentiful). You may net more by including the phrase "Vietnam Era" in the item title, as this is accurate. And if they are in excellent condition, you'll get more for them. Check other of these currently on Ebay to see, and to get tips for selling your own.

Camillus made a few nice special issues of this knife for others and their company to distribute. I have one in particular I like, a 'John Wayne' model and another commemorative with brass fittings, as well as the older 'Astronaut' civilian issue. The Six inch bladed ones, very early issues, are the most valuable, and also have the 'vietnam' collector's cache going for them. The holes in the guards were for, I think, turning the knife into a spear.

Lots of people need new sheaths, usually sellers put them on ebay in lots of three or four.

Good luck with your auctions.

Phil

Thankyou to textoothpk for the information about the knives. I guess I could give the successful bidder their choice of sheaths. Thanks again.
