hi, i just bought an old lok rancher stockman and have got 2 more waiting to be bought . Its a knife with a locking safety in the middle of the handle. Also just picked up a 76 camillus knife catalog and in it they also made a large lockback with the safety,my question is if they went through the trouble of patenting it and it seems to be a good idea, i wish my queen stockman had it,why dont they use this idea anymore

The LOK-RANCHER knife was a model #88 three blade stockman. The clip blade used a sliding lock mechanism that was patented by Camillus. This knife was offered during the 1970's and 1980's.

The single blade knife with the same locking mechanism was the model #7 CAM-LOK knife.

Both knives were in production until being replaced by the more popular LOK-BACK knives (models #2, #3, #4 and #11).
