Ive heard that camillus is no longer making the m3 repro does anyone know if this is true? and if it is, why can you still find certain places that still sell them, like brigade quartermaster? also does anyone know where I can get history info on the m3, and the sheaths that were used? (I know they used the m8 scabbard, and a leather one also).

any info would be greatly appreciated,

thanks, John

John,
I'll let Tom Williams fill you in on the history[its got alot of it!], but yes, we still make limited quanities of the M3. We produce it for 1 wholesale distributor on an exclusive basis, and he is supplying them to Brigade. I'm not usre if it will stay in hte line for 2003, so if you want one, I would get it!

Camillus began manufacturing the M3 Trench Knife (Model #5682L75) in 1943. The early models had "1943" stamped on the blade. The year stamping was discontiued in late 1943. Our WWII records state that the M3 was a "utility knife used by certain ground forces of the AAF, tank units and specialized commando units". The M3 came with either the leather M6 sheath or the plastic scabbard. Original WWII M3's have two pins through the butt cap. A total of 402,909 M3's were produced in 1943 and 1944.

A reproduction of the M3 was introduced by Camillus during the 1990's. These can be distinguished from WWII era M3's as they have only one pin through the butt cap.

I did find one other place that usually carries them, cant remember the name, but it was a surplus store in Illinois. I do know this place had maybe one left. That was week ago, or so.
