Hi there. I have a Camillus NY knife stamped USN on one side of the blade. The pommel is black plastic and it has a brass (?) threaded piece. I would like to remove it so that I can replace the leather handle. Any ideas?

PB Blaster and a wrench/ratchet and socket, screwdriver (modified as required), or spanner wrench?
I don't know which tool it will take to unscrew the brass part.
Work slow spray the PB Blaster several times as you are unscrewing the pommel nut, and work the brass pommel nut back and forth so you don't twist off the threaded part of the tang. There may be electrolysis corrosion (likely) and/or lock-tite. (hopefully not red lock-tite)
With the plastic pommel heating the brass is not an option, unless you have a replacement pommel.

Are you sure the leather washers are beyond salvation? Dirty, dried and shrunken leather washers can be cleaned and renewed.

Hopefully someone who knows more than I will be along soon.

Good luck.
