Camillus model 716

Having looked on Ebay for a long time,,, I have saw few of these. I would not say rare, but is not one listed everyday either. I only remember maybe 5 in the last three months.

Interesting design on the dbl lockback. I hadn't seen one before. Nice. Thanks for posting.

Phil,
I see your name on the patent.
More info please!
Nice knife.

The '303 patent was for the double lock back configuration.
We used that for several knives for different customers over the years.

We wanted to build a lock back version of the classic Remington Trapper (R1123). Problem was the tension springs for the lock took up too much room, so the blades ended up looking absurdly small for the knife.
That is when I developed the '079 patent. Essentially the design moved the springs under the handles of the knife. Using small spacers at the end of the knife took up no more space than the conventional pocket springs of the R1123, so we could achieve full size blades.

It is a sturdy knife and works flawlessly but it is as heavy as a boat anchor! I carried it in a sheath once or twice but never really used it. I guess I'll keep it now that I have learned so much about it.
