What is in a name?
The "New Camillus Heat Knife" thread was closed before I could rebut a point that cougar 64 made.
Camillus acquired quite a few names before they closed. Since Camillus purchased the name "Western" did Western cease to exist because Camillus took the name over. When Ka Bar starts production of the Becker line will you stomp you feet and say its not a Becker?
You see Camillus was a manufacturer, I'm not taking that away from them. However they produced quite a few knives that were not their own name or design. Read any book about the Camillus company or any book about knife manufacturers and you will find that Camillus was best known as a contract knife company. Years ago people warned about the end of Camillus because the Name Camillus was not a household name like Buck or Case ect....
After Camillus lost the Remington contact the company started a down hill slide. This brings up another point; When Camillus produced the Remington bullet knives would you say that they were not really Remington knives???
Take a look around, names change every day but the concept remains the same. It seems that the issue is jealousy not who is making the Camillus Heat knife. Let me reiterate; The Camillus Heat was never produced at Camillus Cutlery NY factory, so why all the negativity over the name?
