Hello Fellow Camillus Collectors!

I've read a number of posts on this sub-forum.....I've collected camillus kabars for a while.....but this is my first post. I just purchased a fiddleback maple Camillus OVB Fisk Southwest Bowie(11.25" blade version) and am very much looking forward to her arrival! This looks to be a beautiful bowie and I think it will go well with my Matt Lamey, Charlie Edmondson and Mason Leeth(still in completion phase) bowies. Anyone who happens to have one of these beasts please feel free to comment as I'd love to hear current comments on this beautiful knife! Thanks.....

I had several of these. The ironwood versions seem to have a habit of cracking around the rivets, either from stress, or the wood wasn't fully cured. But yes, they are beautiful.

From the use of the word "HAD" I'm assuming you got rid of them already?? Was this due to the cracking of the handles or other performance issues?? Thanks.....

I needed to fund other projects, so something needed to go. I didn't see cracks until I took pictures. Really sad to see such a wonderful knife do that. Maybe if I had used wood oil or something on them it would have not cracked.

Thanks for the update. Have you heard if the fiddleback maple handles had the same cracking issues?? My assumption regarding the cracking is in their wood stabilization process.....if the wood is stabilized the right way there shouldn't be any cracking. Also, I'm curious what they use to condition or seal the handles and if any further oiling would make any kind of difference....many things to ponder. None of my other bowies or knives with wood handles have had that problem.

I had two maple and two ironwood. Both of the ironwood versions cracked. A couple were what I would consider major cracks, and all were cracked by the rivets. No cracks on the maple. If I had not needed the money, I would have put new handles on them and put them to work as users. But, poor people have poor ways...

Thank you sir.....your updates have been most helpful!

The bowie arrived today and it is in perfectly pristine condition.....not a mark anywhere!! The weight and balance of the steel is quite nice and seems like it would be a perfect trail companion.
