What can you guys tell me about this blade? It looks really nice, but I don't know much about the steel. ( I used to have a BK9 but my neighbor somehow buried it with his Bobcat) How is the edge geometry? How hard is the cutting edge? Is the grip really secure?
Thanks in advance
Luke

So far there have been two OVB knives, both bowies designed by Jerry Fisk. I can't speak for the earlier 6" model, but I have the later 11" version, the Southwest Bowie.

The Southwest is made from the same high-carbon steel (0170-6C) as the Becker line. The blade is flat ground and polished to a satin finish. I haven't seen HRC values, but it seems to have been hardened toward the upper end of the range for this steel. Edge retention is outstanding.

The Southwest's grip is comfortable and very secure. The rather flat profile keeps it from twisting. The guard keeps your hand from sliding forward. The subtle but effective hook towward the pommel prevents it from getting away when chopping.

Despite being a very large blade, the Southwest is light and quick. Mine weighed in at only 15 ounces. The balance point is about an inch forward of the guard. It feels alive in the hand. This is a serious fighter that can work for a living when needed.
