I picked up a Stanley Proto lock back, and it appears to be on the Camillus 886 platform. Only markings are on the tang,, as follows,,, 18545 PROTO U.S.A. the leather belt sheath says STANLEY PROTO 95218 MADE IN U.S.A. GENUINE LEATHER. I am more into the Schrade, but just couldn't pass this up with the U.S.A. stamp on it. The question is, did Camillus make this for Proto? or did Proto buy the parts from Camillus and do the build out themselves on reground blades? Proto still sells this same knife under part number J18545, I take it that the J means Japan,, will defere to those more knowledgeable than me on this, as I said I have been more into the Schrade brand. This knife is on par with a Schrade Uncle Henry LB7, though I like the Schrade Blade better than this Proto blade, the fit and finish on this Proto may be Just a notch better than the Uncle Henry, comparing apples to apples. I have to say, this Proto Deluxe large lock back is just a great knife. Any information on if, or when, this was a Camillus product would be very much appreciated. Thanks for reading...
