I am interested in one of their new products. Does this company make high-quality knives?
Thanks and pardon the ignorance.
Charles

I never owned one from them before but do a search on the EDC...I'm thinking about picking one up myself as they sell for around $40

That gets you a nice practically legal anywhere 3" blade of 154CM steel and a solid steel handle.

It's not "new" but it sure looks good!

Camillus makes a great line of knives, ranging from their OVB line to Becker, Western, and their own stuff. They have come out with a few new models that are very exciting... the robo-assist Dominator, the Aftermath, and the BK-10 to name a few.
I have several: the BK-9 combat bowie, the first two Jerry Fisk designed OVB bowies, the marvelous yet sadly discontinued Fisk designed BK-5, and a sweet little 1095 carbon steel bladed stockman. I lust for more, the aforementioned Dominator and the new Fisk 11" southwestern OVB bowie are in my future hopefully.
You should be able to find just about anything you are looking for, in a wide range of prices. Will Fennell and the gang at Camillus excel in customer service. The Becker line is a fantastic group of fixed blades for an excellent price range. Tough knives that get the job done.
Good luck on your search, head on over to the Camillus forum to ask some specific questions.

If you've carried practically any kind of knife in North America in, oh, the last 20-30 years or so, you may well have carried one made by Camillus as they manufacture knives for other makers ... and do a darned fine job IMHO. I have a Buck stockman that I believe was made at a Camillus plant, and it is whispered (OK, well-known) that Camillus produces Cold Steels's Carbon V steel line. Tough to go wrong with Camillus whether their own name or someone else's.

My only experience with Camillus is with the Arc-Lite that I bought. While it is a neat little knife, I was somewhat disappointed to find that the blade was scratched on both sides (we're talking big scratches here; but luckily for me, they weren't that deep) and was dull to the point where it wouldn't shave hair or even neatly slice paper. Keep in mind that this is brand spanking new, out of the box...

That having been said, I spent a little time on the Sharpmaker with it and now it's very sharp. It is, afterall, a $20 knife and even with the dullness and scratches out of the box, I think it is a great knife.

Yo Charles,

Go for it! Camillus makes some great knives, especially their CUDA, Becker and OVB lines.

PEACE!
:)

Camillus tries very hard to come up with quality knives. The BK9 combat bowie, Cuda and some others are shining examples of quality combined with affordability.

I have had nothing but good fortune from this company. I purchased a Cuda Maxx Bowie style frame lock folder and it was a mammoth. I totally loved it. However the blade was a little off center. Sent it back to Camillus with a note. Waited a little bit, then I PMed Will here at blade forums and not more than a week later I had a Brand New knife in the mailbox. Perfect in every respect. I feel they really care about there customers and there products are first rate. I am very excited about a few of there knives that they have coming out in there new line up. And funds permitting, I will purchase several more of there products in the future. I also had the privilege of participating in a EDC passaround and I found the knife to be very well built. A quick search using "Camillus" and "Passaround" will give you a good read from 10 unbiased knife knuts.

I have NEVER been disappointed in Camillus. I love all of them I have ever owned. I give them my highest recomendation.

IMHO Camillus builds a very good knife-not perfect, but very good-for a very good price. Will does an excellent job at customer service as well.

All I can do is echo the positive comments above. I used to own an EDC and I currently own a CUDA Maxx Bowie, CUDA Maxx Stiletto, Becker Patrol Machete, Becker Combat Bowie, Becker Crewman, and OVB Fisk Southwest Bowie. All are solid, well-made knives and bargains within their various price ranges.

I've carried my Maxx Bowie every day for over a year and it has proven to be outstanding in versatility, toughness, and reliability. Not to mention being extremely cool looking. :D

I now have an Aftermath and a Dominator on order.

I've only had one experience with customer service, but it was very positive. Camillus has good people and they turn out a good product.

Camillus is one of those companies where you really do get what you pay for.
Some of their knives are first rate (like the EDC), but others are terrible in fit and finish.

I would recommend that you actually inspect the knife before you buy it.

Good luck,
Allen.

Ditto Allen. Cammilus can make some good stuff, but their cheaper knives can have some severe fit and finish problems (i.e. dull knives, rubbing blades, scratched finishes, etc.) If you're buying low end stuff, inspect it carefully or buy mail order from someone who lets you return it.

I've had my USMC folding (kind of like a SAK)knife since 1988. I think I paid about 10 dollars for it. It has lasted quite well and is quite sturdy. I have used it for just about anything you can safely use a folder for. I've cleaned fish with it in a pinch once. Not a good fillet knife though! The can opener works well too.

Camillus is a good company and I gave this same knife as a gift to my groomsmen and they still use them 9 years later. Not fancy or high tech, just a quality tool for actual use.
