I was down at the hardware store today, this is one of those "old" style stores you find in country towns with all sorts of stuff lying around.

Anyway, I cam across a display box, covered in dust, with a dozen or so assorted knives in it. Most were junk but I saw some Camillus slipjoints in there. These were made in New York according to the stamp on the blade. I saw one there called, I think, a 'Grandpa'. They had a price of $AUS89 on it. (Around $US85).

Considering everything, do you think this would be a good buy?

Any thoughts welcome.

5 years ago or so they could be had for less than $30 US. The Grand Pa series was a copy of Schrade Old Timer series.

are great knives by and large but that sounds a little steep:eek:
They are #1 on my list when i'm out looking about, it would have to be something really special for that price though.
Camillus is missed everyday by this guy:(

It is a little expensive and I'm not sure I want to pay that much for that sort of knife but, it would be nice to have one since they're not made any more.

No thoughts, but envious - those shops are a faint and distant memory for us City folk.
In your position, I probably would pay the 89 odd dollars for it, but only because its so rare to find anything like that here in Oz.

IIRC, the Granpa series had 1095 blades. Should hold an edge very nicely.
I can't comment on the price because I have no way to judge knife prices in Oz.

Here's a nice reference on Camillus. Has lots of catalogs, among other things.
