Noticed this Remington on eBay (item # 6605009523) and wondered about the apparent conflict between the blade etch date and the tang-stamped year? Did Camillus make these up for the 2002 edition from previously produced blade blanks? I have one of these which has no stamps whatsoever on the blade reverses, (not worn off, just never stamped), and I've seen another eBay knife with a blade stamp from the '90's. Was there just a lot of variation in these knives? Can't believe anyone would find it worthwhile to fake them. I'm not interested in buying this knife, just curious. Thanks...

I can't offer any definitive information, but I have run across many Camillus knives that are overruns or seconds from other brand contracts. These are not stamped with model numbers but most are stamped with the Camillus name. I have seen them advertised by Smokey Mountain (SMKW) as "leftover parts knives." On multi-blade knives, they may have carbon or stainless blades or a mixture of both. I believe that Camillus uses their partnership with SMKW to liqudate knives which do not fit the contracts for other brands, usually at a substantial discount. Perhaps this is the case with the knife in question, just speculation on my part.

hi,just to let you know about weird stampings i bought a camillus toothpick from the wild turkey wbsite and it came with a blade stamped R1615 2001 AND NO TANG STAMP when i checked this was the same mark on my mariner remington toothpick when i sent it backe and requested another it came with the right camillus modern tang stamp this knife was made starting in july 2005 so how it ended up with an old blade is anybodys guess
