Does anyone know what steel type Camillus used for their reproduction bayonets (M1 / M4)? I acquired some blade blanks from the Camillus auctions a while back and recently "found" the box they were packed in the last time I moved. I'd like to know the steel type so that I can HT them properly.

Phil I'm no metallurgist but I’am curious. Isn’t 0170-6C a steel that has very similar characteristics to 1095? It seems like Camillus started using 0170-6C more and more after the 1960’s where they used to use 1095. At least that's what I think I see from the few documents I’ve seen it in.

The 0170-6C began when Camillus started making the Carbon V knives for Cold Steel.

Or Cold Steel!?!

Yes, Rick; that is what I meant to say!
Thanks for catching my stupidity, as you frequently had to in Assembly!!!

I will edit post for later readers; your quote immortalizes my mistake.:D

By the way, I have a question for a long time - Are all Cold Steel knives which were made from Carbon V steel did Camillus?

Vitaly,

I think Camillus was he last factory to make Carbon V knives for Cold Steel.
A couple other factories made them for Cold Steel prior to that.

Would it be fair to say that this version was likely made using 0170-6C? I have not had it long.

It was definitely made from 0170-6C!

Did you get the sheath with the 0170-6C wire cutters with it?
