Anyone have any information on this one? It was inside some furniture my mother inherited and had shipped from Germany in the 70's. It's marked "Camillus / New York / USA" and on the other side "1A". I was wondering how old it could be.

I think this Pruning and Utility knife is dated 1946-1950. Unfortunately, a very large portion of the blade is lost. Also, I do not see locking liner.

My Camillus Pruner #1, which is made in the late 50's - early 60's.

Vit is right about the age of this Camillus Hawk Bill pruning knife (07 pattern). I have never seen one of these knives marked "1A" on the tang. This model was made both ways with the liner lock and without. Camillus introduced a new numbering system after WWII that assigned new numbers to existing patterns. This replaced the old numbering system when most knives had 4 digits. A new 3 line tang stamp was also introduced in the mid 1940's replacing the old 4 line tang stamp.

Great examples of three variations of the #1 pruner you have there Vit. On top is the most recent of the three, which appears to be outfitted with Delrin handles. DuPont completed construction of a plant to produce their own formulation of acetal resin, calling it Delrin, in 1960. The middle knife is the oldest, judging by the 4-line tang stamp. Note the absence of a brass liner lock, which is indicative of knives manufactured during wartime, when most brass produced was used in the production of arms. Since the 4-line tang stamp was used from '41 to '46 and the second world war lasted from '39 to '45, I would question your dating of that knife "PRE WWII" (pre 1939) there Vit, but I could be wrong. I'd say the bottom knife was indeed produced in the late 1940's to early 1950's as you indicate Vic, judging by the tang stamp, wooden handles and brass liner lock.

There are likely some specific details that could differentiate them further, but I believe 4-line tang stamps go back to at least 1915.
