Camillus Talon Kydex sheath fitting

Hello,

I just aquired through a trade with a fellow BF knifecollector a Brand New in Box Camillus Talon. It never cut anything, wasn't sharpened and hadn't been put in the sheath for more then a couple of times.

Contrary to what this collector did, just collecting it I tend to use it but after sticking the Talon in the sheath its fit was extremely loose. I tried holding it upside down (neck carry) and jumped up once and the Talon dropped out of the sheath.

I read somewhere that other Talon users have added some rivits to the "neck" part of the sheath but I think that I also heard that I could get a replacement sheath that has a tighter fit that will allow everyday carry without possibly loosing the knife.

Any info would be welcome because I live in Holland and I haven't seen any Talons in Holland so far so I will need to get some kind of replacement from the USA.

Best scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera.

Hey Bagheera!

It's not very hard tighting the sheath up yourself, heat it with a hairdryer for a while (until it get's a tad softer) put pressure where you'd like it to change shape and hold for 5-6 minutes and voilá! done!

I think that the sheath is concealex and not kydex which should make it even easier to work with, just don't over-heat, which is rather hard to do with a hairdryer, just don't hold it too close to the sheath.

Anything else just e-mail me!

Bagheera,
Glad you finally got a TALON! I remember us talking about them when we were starting to produce them, and I glad you were able to find one. I really hope you like the material and the knife as much as expected[maybe even more].
We have had some problems with the first run of sheaths/knives not mating up well. First off, rest assured we will take care of you on this. But, if you want to try heating and modifying the sheath first, go ahead. Since you live across the pond, and shipping time might take awhile, modify it if you would like to try, its really not hard. I use a "heat gun' that I happen to have for paint removel. Just heat the concealex until it will barely move under your fingers, and mold it tighter to the knife. This, to me , is one of the great things about htese sheaths, is that the user can adjust to his tastes.

That being said, we realize that some of the first TALONS shipped are loose in their sheaths due to the scales on the knives being SLIGHTLY smaller than the prototype that BLADETECH was molding the sheaths around. This has been corrected, and the newer sheaths, while looking EXACTLY the same, fit much tighter. If you would like, send me your mailing address, and I will send you a new sheath.

More importantly, tell us how you like TALON!

Dear Mr Fennel,

I just arrived home from a UK trip for the company I work for and I picked up the Talon at our UK office where it had been sent to.

I greatly appreciate your offer for a replacement sheath and will email you my address and will see to it that my sheath gets send over "the pond" to you.

I will most certainly let you know what I think of the Talon but my initial impressions are 100% positive and size wise I see myself carrying the Talon on a daily basis. It's size and weight would make it a perfect companion.

I will most certainly give it a good testing at our scout club and will write down my experience with the Talon.

The only problem I have at the moment is that my wife took the Talon in her hands and she also loved it and gave me that look that I don't have to explain to most married men

I'll probably end up searching for another Talon for her or I could try spending less money and get her the Talon that Blade Forums will be offering in 154CM.

Thank you for your great customer service.

Bagheera,
Maybe if you give her one of the new MINI-TALON's, she might give you the full sized one back

Bagheera,

You feel like lining your Talon up next to your Sebenza for a comparison shot?

Hi Marion,

Will do could take a while because my regular job will be very demanding the next month.

The mini Talon that Will Fennel showed was really "tricky" of him, I now have a wife that will make my live lousy until I get her a mini Talon.
She won't even accept my argument that her birthday is in September

I didn't know a mini Talon was coming? is this a one-off or will this be a regular Camillus item?
What are the exact measurements of the mini Talon (about 6" length?). Will it also be made in the affordable 154CM ?
wink.gif
and what is the proposed price?

Marion, do you know somebody who could make a good quality leather pouch type sheath for the Talon so that I can carry it also on Sundays

or when wearing a business suite ?

Hello Will,

I hope You'll read this email while your "on the road" for the rest of February.
Yesterday a small box arrived with in it the replacement sheath for my Talon.

I immediately tried it and the knife fits perfectly in the new sheath very secure yet easy to remove with a decent tug on the handle. I put the Talon in the new sheath and attached it to some paracord and hung it around my neck. I have jumped up and down quiet a few times and the knife doesn't show any tendency to drop out spontaniously as the "old" sheath did.

I wish to thank you and Camillus for the extreme good service you have.
I will now start experimenting with a electric blower paint stripper to see if I can get the old sheath modified so that it also securely holds the knife.

Thanks again for the GREAT service,

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera

LS. I have been cutting and cutting with the Talon for the last couple of weeks and one thing I noticed is the "bite" of the blade never seems to disappear. I'll try writing some small "test" report after I've done some more slicing, cutting etc.
